The word doula comes from the ancient Greek meaning "woman servant."  Today its meaning refers to a professional labor companion who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to pregnant and laboring mothers and their partners.

Clinical studies show that having a doula for your birth:
*reduces the length of labor by 25%
*reduces the use of pain medication by 30% and epidural by 60%
*reduces the need for obstetric interventions, like pitocin, forceps, and vacuum extractor
*reduces the incidence of cesarean section by 50%

A Doula Provides:
*emotional support
*explanations of medical procedures
*advice during pregnancy
*exercise and physical suggestions to make a pregnancy more comfortable
*help with preparing a birth plan
*positioning suggestions during labor an

* help with breast-feeding preparation 

 Birth Doula services include:
  • Initial free consultation
  • 2-3 prenatal visits to meet and explore comfort measures and to create a birth plan that reflects your vision for your birth
  • Email and phone support throughout your pregnancy and 6 weeks postpartum
  • 24 on call time for your birth
  • Labor support at home and/or hospital
  • Continuous support throughout labor and birth
  • Support for 1-2 hours immediately postpartum to help you with breastfeeding and to facilitate bonding with our new baby
  • 1-2 postpartum visits (1 1/2 hours each)
